Churrolto Hyderabad popped up on the Madhapur food scene and after 6 months, it’s still going strong. Before its launch, hardly 3 places in Hyderabad could do decent Churros and most people didn’t even know about the concept of Churrerías.
History of Churros – Churrolto Hyderabad
There’s plenty of doubt about the origins of Churros, debatable between China and Spain. Just that it gained mass popularity in Spain and other parts of Europe. Predominantly a breakfast option, it has now become a street snack too. It is made from dough that’s squeezed out of a churrera to give it that distinct prism shape (more like our chakli maker). This is then fried to cook it on the inside and get a crispy outside. Final shape ranges from long strands to spirals to bow shape to small bites. It is served with dips like hot chocolate, espresso, thick milk, cream, fruits, etc.
Churrolto Hyderabad, Madhapur –
Their location is the trump card because you just cannot miss this place. They have done a good job of lighting it up well. The place is small but pretty indeed.
The Ambiance at Churrolto Hyderabad
The theme being minimalistic, the furniture is classy wood work and can seat upto 15 people. They have just added some seats outside too, but it would work well in good weather only. The lighting is pleasant and that gives the whole place a very peppy feel. Loads of quirky stuff on the walls to keep you engaged. Don’t miss Hodor on your way out 😛
Short Sweet Menu
Along with their showstopper Churros, they have a few sandwiches, a bakery section and some beverage options. Recently they have also got in some more savoury stuff with pizza, gnocchi and pasta. The menu is good enough for catching up with friends and nibbling on some good food.
Food Order at Churrolto Hyderabad
It’s more like partial self-service, where you head to the counter, order your food and then it’s served to you on the table. The menu behind the counter is detailed and helps you pick what you need easily. Since it was my first visit, I knew what I wanted!
I got the Churros and opted for 2 dips – Dark Nutella and Espresso Choco. 5 long Churros fried crisp and sprinkled with some sugar-cinnamon mix. The Churros weren’t as light as I would have liked them to be, but I am comparing them to the ones I ate on my Spain trip (which might not be fair). The dip quantity would be less if you order just one or you need to ration well to cover all 5 Churros.
The espresso choco is their star dip and was suggested by the owner. It was thick and luscious with a perfect mix of coffee and chocolate. The dark Nutella tasted good but wasn’t as thick. Cleaning up the dips with my fingers was pure bliss.
The Chocolate Mocha ended up being just a cappuccino with a little aftertaste of chocolate. I was imagining something more along the lines of their espresso dip – rich and thick.
Overall Rating – 7/10 (kudos to them for putting Churros on the Hyderabadi food map)
